This Friday, Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu got knocked out of the All England Open Badminton Championships in the quarter-finals against Sung Ji Hyun of Korea and Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei respectively. This was a very sad moment for India to be completely knocked out of the series.
Sindhu failed to overcome World’s No 1 Ying and lost in straight games to top seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei 14-21, 10-21 in the quarter-finals that lasted 34 minutes. However, Saina put up brave show before going down 20-22, 20-22 to World No 3 Hyun in a match which lasted for 53 minutes.
In the first game, Sindhu opened up a 10-7 lead but Tai Tzu fought back with her deceptive cross court returns to not only draw level but also take the lead with another acute angled stroke on Sindhu’s backhand.
However, Saina blew 17-12 and 9-6 leads in the two games to go down fighting against Sung in a 54-minute battle to drew curtains on India’s campaign. Saina had a 6-1 head-to-head record against the Korean going into the match but that didn’t matter as Sung was ready to oppose every move of Sania.
It was a bad day for India that both of our players knocked out. We hope for the best in their next tournament and wishing them best for further matches.
