RIO Olympics champs , our own stars Badminton player PV Sindhu and Wrestler Sakshi malik Along with their coaches Pullela Gopichand and Mandeep Singh visited Kerela. They were welcomed in Thiruvananthapuram, captital of Kerela by hundreds of girl students at a state run school. This event was organised by the state Sports Council and Sport Directorate at the Cotton Hill Higher Secondary School for Girls which is considered to be one of the largest girl school in Asia.
Chief minister of kerela Pinarayi Vijayan was also invited for this event, He was expected to be there but due to some personal issues he was not able to be a part of this event. This was the first time when these two winners were coming to kerela after their achievement in Olympics. They also were seen happy with this event , a big smile was seen on their faces. Moreover the girl students who were attending the event were seen full of joy and more importantly proud of these two.
Both of them were rewarded by cash prizes by a private company which was one of the sponsor of the event. An amount of ₹ 50 Lakh was presented to silver medallist Sindhu and amount of ₹ 25 Lakh to bronze medallist Sakshi Malik. Also an amount of ₹ 10 Lakh to PV Sindhu’s coach P. Gopichand and ₹ 5 Lakh to Sakshi’s coach Mandeep Singh.
Later ,Sindhu and Malik thanked the organisers and said it was an inspiration for them to do better. Sindhu said Kerala has very good sports talent and the state government has been very much supportive to the sports sector.Referring to the achievements of PV Sindhu and Malik at Rio, Gopichand said it was a real encouragement to every youngster, especially girls in the country.”Sports is not just about winning medals. It’s only a part of it. The real value of sports is developing the character of human beings and building up a healthy nation,” he said.
We hope that all of these four keep on rising in their fields and these kind of events must be organised to motivate them.
